What if peace, power, joy, and authority weren’t future promises but present realities you can live today? We sat down with author and discipler Jenny Sierra to unpack a bold, practical vision of our inheritance in Christ—one that doesn’t wait for heaven but transforms ordinary days right now. Jenny traces how a simple pattern in Scripture—verses about inheritance appearing everywhere—grew from a journaled list into a 99-part discipleship journal designed to help you access what already belongs to you.
We dive into the heart of formation: learning to memorize Scripture so it lives in you, exploring the richness of original Greek and Hebrew, and turning prayer into a living conversation that listens, declares, and heals. Jenny shares how Jesus modeled authority by speaking the Father’s words, and how believers today can pray with clarity, compassion, and confidence. We talk through envisioning prayers—beholding God’s promises as active in your life—and the way hope, biblically defined as expectation, reshapes anxious minds and weary hearts. This isn’t theory; it’s a toolkit for thriving instead of surviving.
Jenny’s years running discipleship homes taught her how identity is formed in the trenches: serving “the least,” walking with people through struggle, and grounding authority in love. She offers practical rhythms—meditating on the Word before sleep, reading slowly, and letting the Spirit personalize truth—that help faith move from head to heart to habit. If you’ve been white-knuckling belief, this conversation offers a gentler, stronger way: borrow Jesus’ faith, agree with his promises, and step into the life you already own in him.
If this resonates, share it with a friend who needs hope today, subscribe for more soul-deep conversations, and leave a review to help others find the show. Then tell us: which promise are you saying yes to first? BUY The Book HERE (https://amzn.to/4c4SQGu)

SPEAKER_02:Oh hey, hi everyone, and hello to my guest. Right next to me, I have Jenny Sierra. We are going to talk about one of my favorite topics that they're probably my absolute favorite topic to talk about. And we're going to share all about your book. And this is really uh this is going to be such a special conversation, Jenny. I'm so excited because we're going to be talking about something that every believer, at least I think every believer, has heard about, but not every believer has stepped into, which is peace and power and joy and authority. And not someday, but uh, and not when we get to heaven. Like this is the cool thing, I think, right? Not when we get to heaven, but right now. And that is such an exciting thing to realize and understand. And I I don't think I I lumped myself into that. I don't think we realize it so much ourselves. So, Jenny, you have written a devotional called What is Our Inheritance in Christ? And we're gonna unpack, guys, we're gonna unpack what that really means for us ordinary Christians, just trying to live faithfully in an extraordinary world. Wow. So are you ready for this? Oh, good, good. So now your book asks a question that I think a lot of Christians quietly wrestle with. And we hear about promises and blessings and inheritance, um, but most of us are just trying to get through the day, right? So I'd love to get into like the heart of the book. When did this message about our inheritance in Christ first become personal for you?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, I uh just started noticing randomly, so many verses started just popping out to me about our inheritance. I just started noticing them all over the Bible. I had never even noticed them before. And they, Paul, mostly Paul talks about it quite a few times. It but also in the Old Testament, I was seeing a few verses just all over the Bible popping out to me. So I decided to research it. I had never heard a sermon on the topic or any kind of teaching on this topic, actually. I just started researching it on my own and couldn't believe the number of things I was coming up with that we can actually inherit in Christ that He came to bring us into. So I came up with a little pamphlet, you know, keeping track. Started with just recording them in my journal. Came up with a, I gotta publish this. I have to get this out. I love talking with people about eternal issues. So I thought I'm just gonna publish my list of everything we can inherit in Christ to carry them around with me. And if somebody wants to know, I'm gonna give them out wherever I go because this is so empowering. We can, we need to know what's available to us before we can ask God for it, before we can say yes and amen to it. So it super changed my world. Writing this book actually took me to a whole new level of um closeness with God and just being aware of our inheritance and who he is in us, who I am in Christ, who he is in me. All of these deep mysteries just started to come alive to me when I went through getting in depth on each one of these topics. So here we are 99 things that I found. And then I had a friend of mine check them out, see what she thought, as well as my brother. And my friend said, you know, they're good, but it'd be great if you could put some testimonies in there and like help us to access those things, you know, show us how to step in. So I was like, okay, I'll do the real author thing, I'll get in there and explain, you know, this is how now I've run discipleship films for the last 10 years. So this isn't anything new to me. I just was doing the easiest, the bare bones. I'll just let people know. And then it turned into, no, I'm actually gonna walk people through how can I receive this for myself and step into it. So the book actually became a journal, a very comprehensive discipleship journal. One reader, one friend of mine who's reading it said, this is like a course, an entire discipleship course. You need to make this into a course.
SPEAKER_02:Wow. It's it's so fascinating and amazing to me how it came about. Like, and and and honestly, uh that that speaks to me so much because I can't tell you how many times I wake up in the morning and there's a verse just on repeat in my head. And nothing happened, nothing specific happened the night before. I don't think I dreamt anything that I can remember that triggered that. But you know, and all you can all you can say is it's gotta be the the Holy Spirit just just telling you that this is what you need to either be studying or talking about, or both, or doing something with. And I love how you answered that call. Like with your full heart, you weren't like, maybe, I don't know, I guess, sure, you're like, okay, I'm doing it. I'm I am going to explore this. And and I think it's really interesting too that you it wasn't because like you heard, like you said, you didn't hear nobody, anybody um do a sermon on that or speak on it or anything. So I think to me that makes it even more amazing. Were you like looking back? Um, what and I don't want to get too personal, I don't want to ask a question that's none of my business, but were you do you think you were just in some particular season of your life that this called to you so much?
SPEAKER_03:You know, I think it was the perfect timing. Um I um have run discipleship homes, Christian discipleship homes for the last 10 years. And I was just ready to take it to the new level. I I am what the person who claims those Bible verses. I do say yes and amen. I have a lot of faith. Um, and one of the verses that I said amen to is Jesus said, Go make disciples of all nations. So this has been on my heart. I've asked God for it. God was just answering my prayers of how this was gonna happen. You know, I had the two homes that was mentoring as many people as possible. There's only so many people you can mentor in a day. And this, yeah, I'm like, I'm gonna put this in a print and see how many people it reaches because it's the best way to spread this to more than my small little vicinity of people I can mentor.
SPEAKER_02:Sure. Now, when people hear the word inheritance, they may think of heaven someday, but your book suggests that this inheritance is available right now. So, what does that actually mean for us in everyday life?
SPEAKER_03:Wow, this is a huge point. This is a huge um point that is highlighted in the book over and over. That Jesus said to pray, Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Yeah, yeah. Let's just let that soak in because that includes such a huge gamut of God's will being done. And the Bible tells us what his will is. And we know that all things are possible for those who believe. And that's not talking about heaven, it's talking about here. Now, here's a huge revelation that God gave me um in my discipleship. Uh, my passion is um for the last five years, I've been memorizing a verse a day. For a while, it was two a day, one in the morning, one at night. I just love getting the word in my heart. And especially now that I found out how to access the original Greek or Hebrew translations, I'm actually memorizing the word in the original Greek Hebrew. Oh, so much. It's so enriching and enlightening. It's just like making, like I said, taking me to a whole new level, just adding richness to everything in the word. So, anyway, I have so much that I just want to share that I'm still myself. No, you're you're being phenomenal. Yeah, heaven is coming and it's coming through yielded vessels who believe and who take the time to meditate on the verses, memorize them, and do your best to memorize them. The book also walks you through how to actually memorize verses. I tried for 30 years, and you know, I got some breakthrough after about 20 years. I came up with a Bible game that actually I was able to memorize the verses, but not the addresses, the chapters, and you know, where it was. Yeah. But now I'm I'm finally able to memorize the whole verses and I found the secret. I share it in the book. So I can't wait for the body of Christ to come into all of these victories that I've gotten by, yeah. Uh gave my life to the Lord in 1980. That was I was gonna ask you when, yeah.
SPEAKER_02:Wow.
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it's been a while, but 100% for God ever since then. And and I gave my life to him in a mentoring church, which was um really living like in Bible days where discipleship was a huge core value. I got the blessing of being discipled by the pastor of the church, one of the pastors that was a startup church, you know, every week for an hour, just so much blessing at an early age of the Lord. Um, I also came from a family of, you know, my grandparents were pastors and missionaries.
SPEAKER_02:So much wow, yeah. Oh my goodness, what a calling on your life from before you were even born. That's so incredible, so incredible. And I'm trying to keep the envy from my heart right now, but I I have to be honest, I do have it because I, and it's not a knock against my family or anyone, but I grew up with with no religion, you know, it was like church for weddings, funerals, and special holidays, you know what I mean? And and and that it just there was no conversation. We didn't talk about faith, we didn't talk about God, we didn't talk about religion, we didn't talk about any of those things, but it was something that always, always kept calling to me, you know, and I could not make sense of why I would, as somebody who never even read the Bible, I would hear a Bible verse and it would, I would cry, it would make me cry, and I'd hear a gospel song and it would make me cry, and I would just have this well of feeling about it. And it took me way too long to finally go, okay, I'm listening. I'm listening. And, you know, the minutes I did, I'm like, I've got a lot of catching up to do, or like I've got so much to learn. So I I may have like audibly gasped when you said you you actually teach in this book how to memorize verses because that is such a big thing to me. Like it, and just exactly what you said, I'm getting so excited right now. I gotta calm down. Um exactly what you said. I I want these verses engraved on my heart forever. Like I just want to be able to access them at will. And I have a few, but I want to know, I want to, I want to know the whole Bible. But you know, I know that's not realistically gonna happen. But I'm so excited that your book is going to help me do this better. So, oh, what a treasure, what a treasure. I can't even I could just talk about that for the next like 20 minutes, but I'm gonna get control of myself here. Um, oh, I do have to say one more thing. When you started saying on earth as in heaven, on earth as in heaven, as soon as you said it, I went, oh duh, you silly girl. Uh, you silly, silly girl. And and I feel like that is so many of us too, right? Like we, I I think maybe we kind of go on autopilot. We memorize or we work on memorizing, but we don't necessarily work on hearing it, like feeling it, right? Yeah, yeah. That is a thing. Oh my goodness. Um, I want to talk about something that you said in the book. You make a bold statement in the book that we don't have to just survive as Christians, we can thrive. And that's one of my favorite, favorite words, thrive. Um, what does thriving in Christ look like practically for someone who feels stuck in in anxious or or anxious or or just spiritually dry?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah. Thriving in Christ looks like stepping in to our identity in Christ, realizing what it means to live in Christ, Christ living in me, being anointed by the same anointing that was on Jesus, which is the anointing of Holy Spirit and power, learning how to partner with that power and take authority and claim those Bible verses that say, No weapon formed against you will prosper, but you will overcome and defeat everything that has come against you in life. Thriving in life, we get that by taking seriously. Second Corinthians 1 20, I believe, is where it says all God's promises are yes to those who are in Christ Jesus. So it's learning how to live in Christ, which is living in love, because God is love and Jesus is God. It's that simple. You know, first John 4 16 says, God is love, and whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. So it's knowing and realizing by meditating on the verses, memorizing them so they become a part of who we are, so that we can live them. Christ in us is the hope of glory, and the glory of God, glory has been translated. Uh, I think there's at least three different words that were translated glory in the Bible. So it's a little confusing, but the original word kebad in Hebrew, glory, actually means the manifest presence of God on earth. So it's God in a way we can perceive him, feel him, sense him, palpable. You know, like you said, that you was touching your heart, your heart was, you were almost crying. That's God touching you. That's the glory of God drawing you to himself. Anyway, I could go on.
SPEAKER_02:It's so beautiful. I could just listen on and on. I just want to sit back and just soak all this in. And I have to tell you, Jenny, I knew it from the moment you popped up on that screen. I'm like, oh yeah, yep. Yep, you just exude all of the things that you're talking about. And, you know, and I and I I think, you know, that that for me, for somebody like me, um, you and there's so many books out there, right? There's so many books out there, and everybody can pass themselves off as an expert or as an authority in something, whatever. But when you get this opportunity to speak to the person who actually wrote the words and see that they are not just talking the talk, they actually walk the walk. I think that to me is what gives real authority and expertise. And I know you wouldn't call yourself an expert, and I'm not implying that you that you do. Um I I see the humble nature and just that giving nature. Um, but for anybody watching, you know, you you see it, you hear it, you feel it, and you know it. And and that it is so valuable. You talk about walking in our God-given authority. Speaking of authority, how funny, I didn't even, I forgot that that question was coming up. Um, that language can feel intimidating to some believers, right? Um, what does biblical authority actually look like? And what does it not look like? I think that's probably like a good question too, right? What does it not look like?
SPEAKER_03:So good. So in Matthew 28, 18, Jesus had just risen from the dead and told his disciples, all authority has been given to me. Therefore, go uh disciple all nations. The original translation literally says, Go disciple all nations. It doesn't just say make disciples of it, it says disciple all nations. But because all authority was given to Christ, and we are living now in Christ, many of the promises say in Christ, like 2 Corinthians 1 20. All God's promises are yes and amen to those who are living in Christ. This is the key. I mean, John 15, Jesus said, If you live in me and my words live in you, whatever you ask, and the original word is as tete, which is ask or declare will be done for you. The biblical way of praying is not actually asking, which is a whole nother journey. I go into that in the book. Um, because Ephesians 6 18, Paul says, Pray in every different way. In the original translation, it says, pray in many different ways, in every different way. So I was like, what are the different ways that we can pray? I started researching that. Wow.
SPEAKER_02:And I talked about it in the book.
SPEAKER_03:Anyway, one of the ways, the biblical way of praying is how Jesus healed the sick. When he wanted immediate answers to his prayer, he asked God what to say or do. And then he said or did it. And he was speaking God's words with God's authority. In Christ, as long as we're living in Christ, which is living in love and wisdom and goodness, we have authority to perceive God. Second Corinthians 3 18 says we have freedom. It's talking about the freedom to perceive God and to be transformed in his image from one level of glory to the next. Now remember, glory is the manifest presence of God on earth. So ever-increasing measures of the tangible presence of God we carry and we get to proclaim God's words. They're not our words, they're his words, but we're his mouth on earth. We are the body of Christ on earth. We get to proclaim we are the hands and feet of Jesus and also the mouth of Jesus, and we get to speak his words with authority and faith, which brings them to pass. And that is the way to be Christ-like with our words.
SPEAKER_02:Wow. I need to, I need, I need to sit with this for. Don't worry, guys. I'm not going to give you like this full minute of silence, I promise. But um this is this is putting so much thought in my head. And and it's it's making me it's I'm thinking of a couple things as as you're speaking. I'm thinking about the the full armor of God. And I'm thinking about how we simply like the phrase that came to my mind as you were saying this was we need to get out of our own way and get out of his way to let him through and stop overthinking everything, right? And stop questioning and doubting and and all of those things, right? And that was the message I just took from that because I am notorious, and I'm sure so many of us are notorious for second guessing and doubting and you know, doing all of these things, getting in the way. So uh you've made me make this vow to myself and to him that I'm gonna get out of the way. Just get out of the way, right? Oh, so amazing. There they're just how long is how long is your book? How many chapters is? I'm just curious.
SPEAKER_03:Do you know offhand? Okay, that not all the chapters are long, they're different depending on how much needed to be written on each topic. There's 99. Uh technically 99 plus two appendixes, which are about inner healing, how to walk through inner healing, restoring your soul.
SPEAKER_02:Oh, awesome, awesome. And the only reason I ask is because I just want to say, and I know this, and I'm telling myself this, and I'm just uh having everybody listen to me tell myself this that I want to, and I think this is so important too for each chapter, long or short, doesn't matter which it is, to actually sit with it for a little bit and not just breeze through. Like don't just go through it fast. Like don't just read through and call it done. Like just sit with it, right? Sit with it, let it work in your heart, let it speak to you. And I I'm a big, like so much goes on in my brain overnight that, and I and we talked about beforehand how um, you know, just wake up with verses in your head or ideas and thoughts. And I think it's because that's that time where you can't help but get out of the way. Like you're you're in that different consciousness, right? So, so let this book um work on you.
SPEAKER_03:So right that my favorite time to pray is in the middle of the night when you're half asleep, half awake, you're so open to God, you're so not distracted. You are so there for him, you are so readily available. It's just like a blank slate where he can just drop things into your spirit. And here's the secret for you if you meditate on his word before you go to sleep, it opens you to receive throughout the night in your spirit. Long story, but I believe I might have talked about that in there. Meditation on his word, transforming us, just so important.
SPEAKER_02:I love that. I love that. I think that's such great advice. I think it's like life-changing advice because I think you feel it and know it in your next day. Like you start your day differently, don't you? Like it just it's just different. Oh, I love it. Um, I gotta ask you, what in your life prepared you to write this book?
SPEAKER_03:A huge part was getting raised in the Lord in that discipleship culture of that church where I gave my life to the Lord. I mean, huge core value for me. And then starting the two discipleship homes. I mean, oh, here's the big thing: ministering to Jesus in the least. Um, I learned this core value from my mom, who uh came from the missionary pastor side of the family, always reaching out to minister to Jesus in the least, and that does something in you that nothing else can do. It forms you. So that, and then also I went to ministry school for three years. Um, that formed, you know, just every every part of my journey of seeking more of God, seeking to live the word ever since I gave my life to him, has culminated in this revelation of this book and um being able to now spread that out and really believing it's gonna go around the world and disciple nations.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah. And I tell you, you know, in all the the books I've I've bought and looked at and put in my to-be read list and all this is, I honestly have not seen a single one. And I'm not saying they don't exist, but I have not seen a single one that talks about our inheritance like this, that that shares in this way. And and I think it is honestly a unique, very special book in that, in that by itself, let alone everything else that's. In it that you've put into this. I'm curious, was there any part because it it sounds like this book just poured right from you? Like it just came, right? Was there any part of it that you found difficult that maybe you were surprised by any difficulties, or was it just completely God breathed for you?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, it was totally God breathed. It was such a joy and a delight because what I love to do is discover God through his word.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Um, I am a people person, so I also love getting out there and doing this stuff. So it was a little bit hard because I had to kind of pull back from that. Um, but I love getting into the word. I love discovering God. Like I told you, this writing this book has taken me to the next level. I've probably read the book now, you know, going over editing it, uh, you know, uh maybe at least 50 times. And every time I go to a new level uh of, you know, solidifying in these one, you know, 99 things.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So um there's always we can always go higher. We can always go to a new level from glory to glory, face to face, victory to victory. Um, yeah. So I do encourage people not just to read it one time.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:Honestly, go through it at least a couple of times. Take your time with it, really soak all the nutrients up and renew your mind with it. This book, what it does is brings understanding. And also I bring in the original translations of the verses because that's my passion. So if that's from what's out there, I will bring it up and bring people into that revelation. So you're not only getting the 99 things, you're getting the original translation, which is very powerful.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah, it is. Wow. And and you know, to to that point, to your point about you know, reading it more than once, and you know, in every different season of your life, I mean, let's face it, in every different day of the week, you may need to read or hear, see something different. And and I think that really speaks to that too, that like, you know, when you read it this time, there's something that's coming out or jumping out to you or resonating with you because it's what you need in that moment, but you may need something different in another moment that's in a different part of this book. And, you know, you don't you don't know until you're reading. I mean, how many times? I'm sure everybody can attest to this, every believer can attest to this of how many wow and aha moments or the, you know, I can't believe this is coming up right now when I was just thinking about this, or I was just asking this question. And I can't believe it's right here in front of me. So it's just, you know, it's a gift that keeps on giving, really, right?
SPEAKER_03:When I was writing this book, I was um mentoring. I have a friend who's raising her three, was raising her three granddaughters, and I was helping mentoring the girls and just taking them, giving her breaks on the weekends and as often as possible. And one of the girls um actually lived with us for six months, and she, you know, didn't work out long term, but she did say, Can I have the first copy of your book? So when I wrote it, I kept that in mind. And this book is good for anyone from age nine to 99. Um, when I wrote it, also, my brother does theater for a living. He's also written a book, and I asked him, What do you think? And he said, you know, it's good, but you might want to just liven it up with chat GTP ideas. So I had never heard of that. And I checked it, check the older generation, check chat GTP. I went ahead and put one chapter through Chat GTP and just said, make this memorable and livable. Sure. Yep. And I loved how they did it. And that's what we want. We want the word of God to be memorable and livable. So, of course, I couldn't just leave this one chapter in this format, which I can't duplicate on my computer. So I had to go ahead and do every chapter the same thing. Just put it through, keep my text intact, just make it memorable and livable. So if you see an unfamiliar, you know, lots of capitalization in the titles and very memorable, that was the reason. But it's exciting and I think it does stick in this one.
SPEAKER_02:I love, I love that. Listen, you know, I know everybody has some kind of feeling one way or another about AI and Chat GPT and all of these things, but I am a firm believer and an advocate for using the tools available for the best reasons and the best outcomes and using it for good. For someone listening right now who feels like they're just barely holding on to their faith. What would you say to them directly about the inheritance that already belongs to them?
SPEAKER_03:Yeah, someone who's barely hanging on to their faith, get this book, ASAP, read it like this is gonna bring new life into your veins. This book explains how to enhance your faith, how to get the faith of Jesus. He is the author and perfecter of faith. Everything in the kingdom is by faith. If your faith has been depleted, hasn't been founded on the rock of Jesus Christ, we want his faith. That's the faith that overcomes everything. It overcomes the world. He says, you know, in this world you will have tribulations, but don't worry, I've overcome the world. So as we live in him, part of living in him is believing as he believes. And that's a key that most of the church hasn't gotten grasped yet.
SPEAKER_02:Yeah.
SPEAKER_03:So take Jesus' faith as your own. If you want to know how to get his faith, I'll just give you a real quick meditate on the word, envision it. When you envision it happening, that builds up your faith for it. And that's called expectation or hope. The biblical word hope means expectation for it. So many times in the Bible, when you see the word behold, it's a command linked to a promise. Like Jesus said in Revelation 21, 5, Behold, I make all things new. That's a promise linked to a command. The command is behold. See this with the eyes of faith. What's it gonna look like when I make everything new? Take the time to do that, and that will lift up your faith for it. Hold on to that visual. You can have a visual prayer. These are called envisioning prayers. I call them envisioning prayers and beholding prayers. It's a command in the Bible that most people have lost now. So revitalize yourself by beholding the answer to your prayers, by beholding those bubble verses happening, and you will be lifted up above every problem and get the victory over it in Jesus Christ.
SPEAKER_02:Amen. That was so beautiful, so beautiful. I will probably take that clip and play it to myself like 20 times a day until I have it like completely memorized. That's so absolutely wonderful. Jenny, this has been such an incredible blessing.
